What a successful morning cleaning up the shores of Caerlaverock from Castle Corner all the way up to Kelton (and was there a Kingholm Quay contingent too?). The teams of pickeruperers from Kenneth Bank to Kelton collected 2 full skip loads (squashed into one!).

Whilst it is brilliant to have cleared such a load from our shores and roadsides, there is the fact that most of the stuff collected was plastic – it just won’t ever rot away. What can we do to stop folk throwing rubbish out their car windows/ dumping stuff in the river/ out at sea?

If you think you’re just ‘throwing it away’ – where is ‘away’?

A huge thank you and well done to everyone who showed up! We were especially touched to hear of the helper from Dumfries who used to walk his old dog down here, and wanted to come and help keep it tidy. And a special mention to Ian & Margaret Dalrymple and Pamela Brown – who cleared the shore from Kelsick Road end to the layby at Lanyard Wood. We believe Tom Brown helped a wee bit too!

And thanks to Chris Jackson and the NIR and Adam Murphy of the NNR for their organisational skills, and Alison Robertson for her multi-tasking skills – picking up litter as well as taking these fab photos!
