Joe Bilous has been in touch to share this information from Openreach. He followed up on the process for trying to get fibre broadband to the Blackshaw, after the initial push by David Buoy and others in the area.
Blackshaw folk were told to look into the community fibre scheme, so Joe sent details to Openreach and received the reply below.
He concludes that ‘as it seems it would be extremely expensive to go down the community funded route, we are just going to have to wait until they get round to us on the full rollout’…
“The current situation is that you are 4.3Km away from the nearest point we can access fibre (cabinet 2 in Bankend). The route from Bankend to yourselves is a mix of overhead and non-ducted cables. Whilst we can look to give you a cost to extend fibre into your area, we would expect that cost to be easily in excess of £50k.
The Scottish Government are currently going through a procurement process as part of the next phase of the Digital Scotland programme (R100) Whilst no information is available as yet regarding the postcodes areas that will be included and the actual method of connection e.g. direct cabling, wireless, mobility – it may be best if you await the outcome of these discussions to see if you will benefit.
Updates should be published on the Digital Scotland website when available”
