Thank you to David Buoy who has been keeping a close eye on the internet situation and has been in touch to say that Glencaple village has just been connected to the fibre cabinet – and BT are taking orders for the upgraded service!
This news could just make your day!
Simply put, fibre broadband promises ‘super fast’ internet speeds. That means up to 80mb compared to around 5mb currently in Glencaple, if you’re lucky, on non-fibre broadband. Quite a difference!
For Bankend, Kelton and other areas of Caerlaverock, keep an eye on the BT Service Checker here www.productsandservices.bt.com and please let us know as soon as you’re connected.
For a little more informations, www.moneysupermarket.com/broadband explains that,
“The latest advancement in broadband technology, fibre optic broadband is promising super-fast speeds for all of your daily internet needs. Its name comes from the use of plastic or glass cables, which allow for faster data transfer compared to the standard copper wires which are used in regular broadband connections.
Other than this detail, it’s practically the same as standard broadband connections you’ll find across the country, only offering higher speeds. It won’t require a fancy computer to use and doesn’t ask you to use any specific software, making it incredibly easy to use.”
And www.productsandservices.bt.com advise,
BT always offers you the best speed possible on your line. Typically 80% of customers receive speeds within or above this range. The speed prediction we have given here is an estimate, however download speeds can vary and the actual download speed will fall within a range. The BT broadband range is an indication of the speed that other similar lines across the UK have achieved for their broadband service.
The actual speed depends on several factors such as the product option you choose, the processing power of your computer, how many people are using your broadband connection at the same time, whether you use a wireless or cable connection, the speed of the websites that you visit and the performance of our network. Speeds to be lower at peak times – peak times are evenings and weekend.
In the first ten days you may see your speed go up and down. When using a postcode only (rather than a telephone number) the checker results are less accurate. We use a best guess of where you live based on the centre point of the postcode and not the exact routing of the line to your address, and so the result must be treated with caution.
We’re all looking forward to catching up with our Caerlaverock Community Association news faster than ever before!
