Cornwall camper main

We stopped to chat with a lovely couple from Cornwall who have come to Caerlaverock in their camper van for the first time.

Cornwall CampersThey found Glencaple Quay in the Britstops camping book (see photo). They had been visiting family in Durham, but wanted to find some sunshine, as the East coast is fair dreich compared to our currently clement-ine climate!

They were absolutely delighted to find Glencaple having enjoyed the journey through Caerlaverock. They were impressed that we still have public toilets open, were enjoying cappuccinos from the tearoom, and are looking forward to a lovely meal in the Nith Hotel this evening! We discussed other stop-overs for motorhomes and were really pleased that they were so positive about us! They are keen to enjoy the peace and quiet, listening to the different birds, coming from a South coast estuary of only jackdaws and gulls… As we spoke, the skylarks were singing their hearts out in the sunshine. Bliss!

Cornwall camping coupleWe suggested that they stop off at the Castle Corner campsite just along the road tomorrow, to book and stay the next night there. From there, they can walk through the woods to Caerlaverock Castle, and then on along the Flooder’s walk to WWT Caerlaverock, which they were planning to do already, having passed it en-route. As our sunny spell is set to continue, what better way to spend a day?!

It was lovely to chat with folk who have never been here before, but were so full of praise for our place –  the facilities, places to visit and tranquil beauty of the surroundings in our lovely corner of the world.
