The local police, at the latest CCC meeting were keen to encourage Caerlaverock residents to remain vigilant about home safety, and that of our neighbours. They advised us to report any suspicious vans (unmarked/ unfamiliar/ not local companies) or cold call traders without id, or indeed anything that is just plain ‘suspicious’. If reported to them (rather than discussed with neighbours and friends), they can quickly check out the credentials and act accordingly.
They also mentioned that sometimes, these people will ‘phone ahead’ – so a late night phone-call from an unknown number could be someone checking if the house is empty. Again, we are urged to contact police if we have any concerns of this nature.

Cold callers will move from area to area – Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Trading Standards Service has received reports of a trader currently cold calling in the Dalbeattie area. The trader is offering to carry out roofing work.
Advice from Trading Standards to all resident is to not deal with any traders that cold call at your property and to report any suspicious activity or incidents to them.
