short-eared-owl-966529_1280The Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve (NNR) team report that the recent drop in temperature has seen a rise in Scandinavian migrants on the reserve at Caerlaverock NNR, with flocks of fieldfares and blackbirds feeding on hawthorn berries throughout the reserve.

Along with the thrushes there has also been an exciting increase of birds of prey on the reserve. Most notably a male Hen Harrier has been seen regularly in November along with peregrine falcon, merlin and short eared owl all hunting over the merse.
