We asked Caerlaverock Community Constable Jac Irving if she could let us know a wee bit about herself and her role within the community, so that everyone knows who to get in touch with with any concerns.
“I am Police Constable Jaclyn Irving but prefer to be known as Jac. I am stationed at Dumfries Police Station and the Community Constable assigned to the areas of Georgetown, Calside and Caerlaverock. I have over 8 years Police service and have been stationed mainly at rural stations including (the old) Locharbriggs beat, Sanquhar and Lockerbie. Having spent a couple of years within the Cybercrime department as a Digital Forensic Analyst in the National Online Child Abuse Prevention team, I have a keen interest in helping people understand the internet and its associated risks.
Rural stations require a much different approach to policing which I feel will help me in my role. I am currently trying to learn as much as I can about the wildlife aspect of our lovely villages in order to disrupt the criminal potential that goes hand in hand with it. Aside from that I’m keen to set up a pop up surgery so you can come along and have a chat on a more informal basis or if have an idea to discuss for something within the community that I can help with, I’d like to do a session on internet awareness for parents and carers and theres a few community events coming up that you may see me assisting with (thanks Kelly!)
If you’d like to discuss anything please don’t hesitate to get in touch (especially about the small stuff), my email is 1593706@scotland.pnn.police.uk”

Hello Jac, You posted something – maybe on Facebook – about helping people to stay safe on line. You offered some dates in January. I would be interested- I’m old and largely self taught. I try to be careful on line, but am sure I have things to learn. Are you any further forward with dates, time place. Do we bring our own Laptop (which is what I use)….
