With thanks to David Gilbert for passing this information on. He has been contacted by Karen Penny’s ‘support team’ (Mark!) to let us know she’s on her way to Caerlaverock – today!
David has arranged for the Caerlaverock Community Association (CCA) to support Karen’s efforts with a hot meal and a stay at the Nith Hotel tonight which includes a hearty breakfast to set her up for the journey ahead tomorrow morning (we can testify to the heartiness of the Nith’s Scottish breakfasts!).
If you see Karen on her journey, please give her a warm Caerlaverock Welcome, an encouraging wave or join her for a wee walk and a blether! Unfortunately we’re all away just now, so looking for some other friendly folk to say hello! [Please send us photos to share!]

Whats it all about?
Karen is undertaking a walk around the coastlines of Britain & Ireland to raise awareness & funding for Alzheimer’s Research UK. To date she has raised £40 518 for the charity! Her journey will be around 20,000 miles and will take a number of years to complete…
Mark told David that,
Karen left our home in the Gower, Swansea, South Wales in January of this year. She has completed the island of Ireland, the Welsh coast, Isle of Man & the NW coast of England, passing into Scotland yesterday [Sunday 18th August 2019].
This is a self funding challenge with Karen carrying a tent on her back. However, over the past 7 months the support for Karen on her walk has been truly amazing with offers of help from a cup of tea to accommodation. People have be so very kind.
