Thanks to Tom Brown for drawing this to everyone’s attention. Here’s the polite version:
“Would the mindless person dumping carpets at the Big Rock consider taking to Lockerbie Rd tip.
It beggars belief at times.
Alternatively cut up and put in your own bin…”
Fly tipping is a serious matter, not only is it illegal, with a £200 fixed penalty notice (or up to £40,000 fine and a prison sentence for more serious offences), it is immoral.
The dumped carpet has now been put in the bin.
Dumfries and Galloway Council Safety Team is responsible for dealing with reports of fly tipping.
The officers can issue a fixed penalty notice of £200 and can arrange for the rubbish to be removed. More serious offences can be prosecuted through the courts with fines of up to £40,000 and a prison sentence.
To report fly tipping you can:
Email communitysafetyteam@dumgal.gov.uk or
Call 030 33 33 3000
You need to provide:
- your contact details
- the location of the fly tipping
- how much rubbish has been dumped and what it is
- the date and time you saw it being fly-tipped (if you know this)
- description of the vehicle or people involved (if you know this)
