With thanks to David Gilbert for drawing this article from the Dumfries and Galloway What’s Going On page to our attention.

It highlights the dangers of bathing/ swimming around the Solway coastline.

Whilst we are immeasurably lucky to have the independent, voluntarily run Nith Inshore Rescue on our doorstep, every day they don’t have a call-out is a good day!

The main points of the article include:

  • Our responsibilities in educating our children about the potential dangers of water
  • Being aware of potential dangers before entering the water
  • Remembering that water can be dangerous and cold water shock is a significant risk, especially with lovely hot summer days
  • There is a risk to anyone responding to someone in difficulty too

Dial 999 if someone is in difficulty.
