Thanks to Nith Ward Councillor John Campbell who has been in touch and forwarded this response to an enquiry brought up at the August CCA meeting (that the school bus does not take the children along the Blackshaw Road but drops them off at the road end):
“There has been no bus on this road for many years and given that all properties are within 2 miles of the main B725 agreed School Transport Policy (last reviewed and agreed by Committee in 2015) would preclude any future bus provision on this road as the road end at the B725 is identified as the designated pick-up point for those living on Blackshaw Road.
The Policy requires parents to take responsibility for making arrangements to have their child reach school safely and states, ‘The first 2 miles of travel (if the pupil is under 8), or 3 miles (if 8 or over) is the parents’ responsibility and they should ensure that their child reaches the designated pick-up point or the school safely’.
With respect to the safety of any route to a designated pick-up, the Policy (para 2.3) states that ‘All routes are assessed on the assumption that the child is accompanied by a responsible person.‘”
