The lady bracing herself to hanging her washing in the blustery breeze is thought to be Martha Clark. The photograph was taken at Conheath Cottages in 1954. The washing posts were stationed on the merse in front of the cottages.
Whilst the cottage has also been named Shoreside Cottage (in @1912), the current cottage stands on the site of the old cottages, and is called Martha’s Cottage – a fitting name.
