SUMMARY:Ladies' Club
DESCRIPTION:A chance for ladies of all ages\, from throughout Caerlaverock and beyond\, to get together for an evening of chat\, laughter and maybe even to learn something new! \nWe have a different focus each month\, sometimes we have speakers\, sometimes games nights\, and there is a meal around Christmas time. Of course\, there’s always tea\, coffee\, biscuits and a chance for a blether! We’re often asked how we’re different to the WI – the simple answer is that the WI have rules and regulations to comply with\, and each member is required to be a member of the society – so we decided to stay as an independent ladies’ club with a more relaxed approach to getting together and trying new things. \nWe run from October to May\, and there is a fee to join the Ladies’ Club of £7.50\, plus the session cost.

SUMMARY:Short mat bowls
DESCRIPTION:An evening of short mat bowls for everyone. It’s a mixed group made up of all ages and abilities. Folk come from all over Caerlaverock\, from Bankend and outwith. \nYou don’t need to bring anything\, all the equipment is available in the hall for us to use. \nWith experienced folk running the group and guiding you through the (simple) rules\, you are in safe hands. At the beginning of the evening the group is divided between the two mats and split into teams\, usually of between 2 and 4 people. You will take it in turns to bowl your ball so that it finishes as close to the jack as possible\, avoiding the ‘windmill’ obstacle placed in the centre of the mat – purely to make the game more interesting! The bowls are biased but you soon get the hang of them. Most importantly\, half way through the evening everyone stops for a cup of tea and a biscuit! \nIt costs just £3 per night\, plus an annual membership fee of £7.50.

SUMMARY:Troqueer and Caerlaverock Church of Scotland Local Mission Church
DESCRIPTION:As many of you will be aware\, the Church of Scotland has undertaken a huge\nreorganisation\, leading to a reduction in the number of Ministries by combining\nparishes and closing many churches. \nAfter a long period of uncertainty\, the plan for our own congregation is a Union\nwith Troqueer Church in Dumfries\, with Caerlaverock becoming a Local Mission\nChurch (LMC). This would be a big change but would avoid complete closure\nand mean that worship would continue in the parish. Sadly\, the plan is to sell the\nChurch building and have future services in other venues\, probably the village\nhalls. In the short term\, services would still be held in the church. We cannot be\ncertain at the moment\, but it is unlikely that local services would be weekly. \nThe Union is planned for the 1st January 2025\, after which\, we will be given\npermission to call a Minister for the new Troqueer Caerlaverock Parish. This\npost will specify the requirements of Caerlaverock as a LMC. Both Kirk Sessions\nhave approved this plan but the congregations must also agree. \nPresbytery has called a meeting of the Congregation of Caerlaverock to meet in\nthe Church at 9.45am on 24 November 2024. The purpose of this meeting is to\nseek your approval for the Basis of Union when establishing a Local Mission\nChurch as formed and agreed by each of the two Kirk Sessions of Troqueer and\nCaerlaverock and this will be by a Vote. \nA Representative from Presbytery Planning will be present to read through the\ndraft Basis of Union when Establishing a Local Mission Church\, together with the\nBasis of Local Mission Church and conduct the vote. Both documents are\nattached. \nCaerlaverock Kirk Session\nNovember
